Shoulder Pain & Chiropractic

Most people believe chiropractors only work with the spine. This is a misperception. In fact, the whole premise of chiropractic is that the body heals itself if there is no nerve interference getting in the way of that process.

One of the areas that chiropractic has had great success with is shoulder pain. Over the years there have been many studies regarding chiropractic’s effect on shoulder pain and dysfunction. It has shown that chiropractors have had a positive effect on shoulder outcomes.

Much of what a chiropractor does is restoring motion to joints that are fixated and not moving correctly. Adjustments to the shoulder have shown to restore or increase the range of motion in shoulder patients. When combined with certain therapies like ultrasound, restoring normal function is a common result. Often the muscles in the upper back and neck may be compromised. Making sure those areas are addressed generally gives patients a better chance at a full recovery.

It has been found that post-surgical cases have responded well to this approach of care. It is very important to see the patient’s whole body. Correcting the whole body is one of the thigs chiropractors are known for. When a patient is looked at this way the maximum benefit is accomplished.

Addressing areas such as the upper thoracic spine and ribs have demonstrated good results when dealing with shoulder patients. This is another example of how the patient needs to be looked at as a whole.

Dr. William Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic in Stuart Florida works with patients as a whole. Adjustments of the spine and extremities will give patients the best chance of getting the body to heal.
