Jaw Pain

Movement of the jaw occurs at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It is one of the most worked joints in the body. It is surrounded by an intricate collection of muscles and connective tissue. Unfortunately, it is susceptible to problems. The TMJ frequently develops problems that can cause pain, clicking and disfunction.

Studies regarding jaw function can be tide into neck issues. Cervical dysfunction is frequently present when a patient presents with TMJ disorders.

When postural issues are present in the cervical and upper dorsal regions it will create a situation where the jaw might be involved. People often present with a forward head posture. This creates a pull and tension on the neck and connective tissues surrounding the jaw. This plays a major role in TMJ dysfunction.

Chiropractors treat the TMJ with specific adjustments to the area as well correcting any misalignments and postural issues in the neck. Studies have shown that TMJ disorders are greatly reduced when these postural issues are also addressed.

Dr. William Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic in Stuart Florida has treated patients with these problems for almost 3 decades. This is another example of how the “Whole Body” approach to health and wellness will give patients the best possible chance at a full recovery. Examining the cervical spine is prudent when dealing with TMJ issues. It is just one part of a very intricate skeletal muscular system. Chiropractic is “Whole Body” wellness.
