Non Surgical Care For Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a common condition that occurs as we grow older. It can cause postural problems and lead to difficulties in later life.

As we grow older the spine tends to have wear and tear that can cause the disc that separates the vertebrae to thin out and degenerate. This puts extra pressure on the nerves that exit the spine. This can create pain and dysfunction. Numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain in the extremities are often the result of this nerve pressure. Arthritic change around these openings decreases the amount of space that the nerve needs to exit and function properly. These patients will often present with forward posture because that tends to take pressure off the cord and spinal nerves to decrease pain.

Stenosis will come on with time as we grow older. If you have had a history of injuries, it can have an even greater effect. Normal wear and tear are one thing and when accompanied with a history of injuries the problem can even be worse. Obesity and poor nutrition can also have a negative effect.

Chiropractic has been shown to be of great benefit for those patients who have spinal stenosis. Of all the things that can increase pressure on the nerves and spinal cord are misalignments of the vertebrae and postural abnormalities.

In studies it has shown that patients who have received chiropractic care and therapy have had greater improvement. This is great news for those folks since drugs and surgery are not great options and should only be a last resort.

Dr. William Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic in Stuart Florida has treated patients with stenosis for almost 3 decades with great results. Across the board, studies and research have shown that the Doctor of Chiropractic have had far greater results with these cases with far less adverse effects.
