Desk Work & Neck Pain

Many patients visit our office with neck pain that is aggravated by working at a desk or computer. I am often asked if there is a better option for doing desk work.

Everything from standing to “treadmill” desk have been created to help with back and neck pain issues. Standing has been found to help with upper extremity pain compared to a sitting desk. Some research suggests that office duties are performed at a higher level when a device to exercise is part of you set up. The treadmill desk and cycling devices are examples of different options.

As a Doctor of Chiropractic, I am asked frequently what the best option for patients is. I have found that everybody is a bit different, and it ultimately comes down to the individual’s preference. It seems that the best option is to switch it up a bit. It is important to get up and move to avoid the aches and pains of staying sedentary. Try to insert some exercise in your day even if it’s at a specialized desk or just breaks to stand and move around. For more information feel free to ask Dr. Morgan about what might be best for you.
